Is the loofah sponge soft or firm?
It's firm by design, and that's the point. A natural Egyptian loofah gives a deeper, more invigorating scrub than a soft pouf, so it really sweeps away dead skin and leaves you smooth and glowing. It softens a little once wet, and lighter pressure makes it gentler whenever you want.
Who is it best for, and where should I use it?
It's great for anyone who likes a proper, energizing scrub, especially on rougher areas like elbows, knees, heels and your back. If you prefer something gentler for everyday or sensitive skin, our dual-sided loofah pad has a soft cotton side too.
Do natural loofahs hold bacteria? Is it hygienic?
Kept properly, yes. Natural loofah dries faster than a plastic pouf, which helps. Rinse and squeeze it out after each use, let it dry fully somewhere airy, give it an occasional diluted-vinegar soak, and replace it every few weeks. Simple care keeps it fresh.
How do I care for it, and how long does it last?
Rinse well and squeeze it out after each shower, then let it dry completely between uses. An occasional soak in diluted white vinegar keeps it clean. Replace it every three to four weeks, sooner if it looks worn. Being natural, it composts when you're done with it.
What is an Egyptian loofah made of, natural or synthetic?
It's 100% natural, made from the dried fibrous flesh of the loofah plant (a gourd), with no plastic and no microplastics. It's biodegradable, so it's kinder to your skin and the planet than synthetic scrubbers.
How often should I exfoliate, and what should I use after?
Two to three times a week suits most people. Exfoliating clears away dead skin so your moisturizer works harder, so follow with one of our tallow balms or body lotions while skin is still damp to lock in softness.

Great stuff make your teeth shiny also
The tallow cream doesn’t leave you feeling all greasy and provides far more moisture than commercial lotion. Tallow soaps leave you feeling clean without all the chemicals in regular soap. I’ve also tried other tallow soaps and only use the Primal now.

I’ve been using the tallow face and body balm for several weeks now. For the past couple of winters I’ve had dry cracked and red skin on my left elbow. Since applying the balm on my elbow at night, it has visibly improved. It’s less red, cracked and feels alot smoother which you can see in the photos—top is before and bottom is today. I’m sorry my elbow selfies aren’t very good! It’s hard to take the photo. If you’d like I can ask a friend or family member to take it for me.

It is very moisturizing, yet soaks in quickly. Scent is pleasant. Before this I used to buy other brands, they all had a strong tallow smell. this one by far is the best I have used in the past 5 years. Also I am sure it has a better tallow as this balm lasts a long time. A little goes a long way. I hope they do not increase their price over the coming years.
